Interviewers often ask me about my experience being Asian American in the music industry. Intertwining my heritage with my identity is something I've navigated for my whole life, but never felt truly fluent talking about until now. So I wrote an essay for the Talkhouse about being mistaken for the violin player on tour, giving myself a bad perm when I was 16, and the importance of representation. Read it here.
So excited that I will be going on tour with The Moth and the Flame next month and playing a show of my own at Baby's All Right in New York NY! Get tickets at kayeofficial.com/shows
So happy and excited to announce that the EP is finally out in the world and consumable on any music machine you have. Check it out on iTunes, Spotify, Apple Music, and everything else!
For all you Weezer-philes out there, here's the "HONEY" vid side-by-side with Weezer's video for "Undone - The Sweater Song," handiwork of director Liann Kaye. Click the photo to watch. Enjoy 🍯
"Charlene Kaye is tired, she has to be, but the eager excitement that gushes from the other end of the phone line seems to overwhelm whatever physical exhaustion she’s carrying. In between her return home to New York from Singapore and a quickly approaching Canadian tour with San Fermin, she finds time to hold a slew of phone interviews (we speculate maybe even eat and sleep) that circle heavily on the anticipation of the release of her Honey EP as KAYE. She’s a machine; but not in the cold, unfeeling, and emotionally disconnected ways that come to mind with such a description. Even over the phone she’s quite affecting, she speaks quickly and urgently, with the invigorations that her passion for music gives her seeping smoothly through the line until you find yourself unawarely invested in her story as a musician."

The HONEY video is here!
I've never had more fun on a music video shoot than I had on this one with some of my favorite pals and SO MANY PUPPIES. Thank you my director sis Liann Kaye and my dudes Elliot Jacobson (who produced the song!), Devon Johnson and my San Fermin bandmate Allen Tate, who puppies flocked to like moths to a flame. Hope you enjoy the video - check out the premiere on AV club now!
My dear friends and fans,
Since I last saw you, I’ve been lucky enough to have the amazing experience of touring all over the world as the frontwoman of San Fermin. The past 2+ years with my SF family have been a joyous, exhilarating whirlwind and I’m so grateful for everything that’s happened since I joined the band. Throughout the hundreds of shows we’ve played and all the places we’ve been to, I’ve been writing, reflecting, recording, and writing some more, and I’m thrilled to say that the first batch of those songs is finally done. It’s a 5-song EP called HONEY and it will be out August 19. This will be my first release as KAYE, and I couldn’t be more excited to share it with you.
The title track of the EP, HONEY, just premiered on Consequence of Sound, and you can order the full EP now through Amazon and PledgeMusic. If you pre-order it on PledgeMusic, you’ll immediately have access to lots of exclusive updates and special, one-of-a-kind goodies such as custom-drawn tote bags, access to the demos, behind-the-scenes videos, songs based on your name, and so much more. 5% of all proceeds from the campaign will go to UNHCR, a charity that assists in humanitarian relief to Syrian refugees – a cause I care deeply about.
It means so much to me to be able to take the next step of this journey with you guys and to reconnect with all of you again. To all of you who have stuck with me for this long, thank you and I can’t wait for what’s next.
Let’s do this!
